Fixing Two BSD TCP Bugs
نویسنده
چکیده
This note outlines two bugs found in the BSD 4.4 Lite TCP implementation, as well as the implications of these bugs and possible ways to correct them. The rst problem encountered in this particular TCP implementation is the use of a 2 segment initial congestion window, rather than the standard 1 segment initial window. The second problem is that the receiver delays ACKs in violation of the delayed ACK rules.

Understanding , Detecting , and Repairing Performance Bugs
Software performance is critical for how end-users perceive the quality of software products. Performance bugs—programming errors that cause performance degradation—lead to poor user experience and low system throughput. Despite advances in profiling techniques, performance bugs still escape in production runs. There are two key reasons why performance bugs are not effectively detected during i...
متن کاملBug shallowness in open-source, Macintosh software
Central to the power of open-source software is bug shallowness, the relative ease of finding and fixing bugs. The open-source movement began with Unix software, so many users were also programmers capable of finding and fixing bugs given the source code. But as the open-source movement reaches the Macintosh platform, bugs may not be shallow because few Macintosh users are programmers. Based on...
متن کاملAnalysing the resolution of security bugs in software maintenance
Security bugs in software systems are often reported after incidents of malicious attacks. Developers often need to resolve these bugs quickly in order to maintain the security of such systems. Bug resolution includes two kinds of activities: triaging confirms that the bugs are indeed security problems, after which fixing involves making changes to the code. It is reported in the literature tha...
متن کاملEngineering with Logic: Rigorous Specification and Validation for TCP/IP and the Sockets API
The TCP/IP protocols and Sockets API have an interesting status: they play a vital role in modern communication and computation, and interoperability between implementations is essential. But what exactly they are is surprisingly obscure: their original development focussed on “rough consensus and running code”, augmented by prose RFC specifications that do not precisely define what it means fo...
متن کاملFixing Recurring Crash Bugs via Analyzing Q&A Sites (T)
Recurring bugs are common in software systems, especially in client programs that depend on the same framework. Existing research uses human-written templates, and is limited to certain types of bugs. In this paper, we propose a fully automatic approach to fixing recurring crash bugs via analyzing Q&A sites. By extracting queries from crash traces and retrieving a list of Q&A pages, we analyze ...
